After my MacBook Air purchase I still have 500 dollars in spending money.

PROJECT CAR HOPE REVITALIZED!

Short list

MX-5

240sx

e36 BMW

Volvo 240s

70s Beetle (baja bug).

Older generation Mustangs

Hopefully, I'm hoping to find one in the winter (when not many people are making project car purchases). Anything I should add on the list? I'm hoping to find a RWD car.

All of them.

Who says you need to pay your rent/mortgage?

I live with my parents because I'm still in school, so now rent/morgage. I mean, I'd love to put all the cars on the list, but realistically, RWD 500 dollars is a small market :(

Any years I should look out for specifically?

Well, the new MBA gets me a good 12-15 (on a good day) of battery life, which I need for school, because I'm always out. Normally, the 13 inch MBA is like 1300 dollars, but with Student discounts, best buy gift cards from my birthday, and a best buy sale that week, I got the 13 inch MBA for like 700 dollars. Totally worth it for school, which I need.

The battery and form factor were the main selling points.

Same housing situation here.

I mean, there's bound to be some... things... out on CL for $500.

Great deal. I asked because I was looking at a ton of Ultrabooks and couldn't justify the MBA. I also wanted decent dedicated graphics so in the end I didn't get an Ultrabook anyways.

Don't ask me, I don't know anything about them.

But I do know that you should go for an LS1 instead of an LT1, it's worth the extra dollars, and late 90s LS1s are dirt cheap now, if you're swapping an SBC.

Get a Haswell (4th gen Intel processor). Seriously, the integrated graphics on this generation are amazingly good. The MBA can play BF3 on low/medium settings, and can play things like counter-strike, Civ on high. I haven't tried other things like F1 2012 or anything yet, but it's really good. If you're not looking for a long long battery life (maybe 5-6 hours,) the market has ALOT of choices.

wait, what's an SBC, and are you saying I should swap an LS1 into a beetle?

SBC = small block chevy.

A lot of baha bugs have V8 swaps, right? That's what I've always thought they were. Small blocks from old sedans put into beetles in California.

Yea, GFs mom works for Intel so I see and hear a lot about Haswell lately. Went to some launch party as well which was a bizarre self-appreciation event.

When I bought my laptop that was still a few months away. I ended up with a Lenovo Y500 because I just don't take my laptop anywhere but a couple times a month. I wanted more of a desktop replacement, I looked at the Asus ultrabook with dedicated Nvidia graphics but benchmarking still lacked. Maybe this next time around I'll take a swing at integrated.
